Dents and scuffs
Small dents in a steel panel that don't bend the joints or the edges. The door still runs straight, and the fix is often small.

Panel repair
A dented or cracked section doesn't always mean a new door. We check whether the panel can be reinforced or replaced on its own, or whether the damage has spread through the door.
Jobs are served from our Santa Clara or Capitola shop. Santa Clara covers the South Bay, and Capitola covers Santa Cruz County.
What we see
A dent that only looks bad is a different job from a section that no longer holds its shape. We look at both before we price anything.

Creases across a panel, cracked joints, or a section bowed by a car. These weaken the door and usually mean a new section.
The repair
When one or two sections are damaged, we replace or reinforce just those and keep the rest of the door.
A new section changes the door's weight, so we rebalance the springs and test the door with the opener before we leave.

How it works
You see the price for fixing the section next to the price of a new door when the two are close.
01
We check the damaged panel, the hinges, the struts, and the tracks beside it.
02
We confirm a matching section is still made, or tell you when it isn't.
03
The section goes in, the springs are rebalanced, and the door is tested end to end.

When it isn't worth it
A single panel isn't always the best value. We tell you when a new door is the better buy.

Questions
When one section can be fixed or replaced, when it can't, and what happens to the rest of the door.
Often, when the manufacturer still makes that section in the same size, style, and color. Older or discontinued doors may not have a match, and then we go over the other options.
A small dent in a steel panel can sometimes be eased out, and a bent section can be reinforced with a strut. A crease across the panel or a cracked joint weakens it, so that section gets replaced.
Not if the door binds, rubs the track, or reverses. A bent section can twist the door against the rollers and strain the opener. Stop using it and call.
The style and color can match, but a new section may look brighter next to panels that have faded in the sun. We tell you that before ordering.
Replace the panel when the damage is in one or two sections and the rest of the door is sound. Replace the door when several sections are damaged, the style is discontinued, or rust has eaten through.
Panel repair vs. replacementYes. Hinges crack and screws pull out of the panel edges as doors age. We replace the hinges and reset the fasteners, often on the same visit as the panel.
