Garage door track being aligned during a track repair

Track repair

Garage Door Track Repair in Santa Clara

A bent or loose track makes the door grind, shake, bind, or ride out of the rollers. We straighten or replace the section, re-anchor the brackets, and align both sides so the door runs true.

Jobs are served from our Santa Clara or Capitola shop. Santa Clara covers the South Bay, and Capitola covers Santa Cruz County.

Before we arrive

Don't Hammer a Bent Track While the Door Is Up

The track carries the door's weight through the rollers. Forcing it with a mallet or pliers while the door is open can let the door twist out of the rail.

Stop using the opener

Each cycle drags the rollers over the bent spot and makes the damage worse.

Leave the door closed

A closed door puts the least load on the upper track and the brackets.

Clear the walls

Move bikes, shelves, and storage away from the tracks so we can reach both sides.

The repair

Straighten, Realign, and Re-Anchor

We check the vertical tracks, the curves, and the horizontal run on both sides, then straighten or replace the damaged section and tighten the brackets into solid framing.

Both sides are set parallel and plumb so the door travels straight and the rollers stay seated. If a roller or hinge was damaged along with the track, we show you and price it first.

How it works

Inspect Both Sides. Fix the Rail. Test the Travel.

You get a price after we see the tracks, brackets, and rollers, before any section comes off the wall.

01

Inspect the whole run

We check both tracks top to bottom, every bracket, and the rollers riding in them.

02

Straighten or replace

Small bends get straightened. Creased or twisted sections get replaced.

03

Align and test

We set the tracks plumb and parallel, check the door's balance, and run it with the opener.

Where tracks fail

Most Track Damage Starts in Two Places

The low vertical track takes the bumps, and the brackets above work loose over time. We check both on every visit.

Bottom corner of a garage door vertical track

The low vertical track

Car bumpers, bikes, and storage hit the bottom of the track. A small dent there catches the bottom roller on every cycle.

Upper garage door track and bracket hardware

Loose brackets overhead

Vibration loosens the bolts that hold the curve and the horizontal track. The rail drifts out of line and the door starts to bind.

Questions

Track questions

How to tell the track is the problem, what bends it, and when a section gets replaced instead of straightened.

How do I know the track is the problem?

The door scrapes or catches at the same spot every time, shakes as it passes one area, or shows a gap between a roller and the rail. You may also see a dent, a kink, or a bracket pulling off the wall.

Can a bent track be straightened?

Often, when the bend is small and the rail can still run true. A creased, twisted, or torn section gets replaced. You hear which one before we start.

What bends a garage door track?

A car or bike bumping the vertical track, storage leaning on it, loose brackets letting the rail drift, or a door that kept running after it jammed.

Is track repair different from off-track repair?

Off-track repair is for a door that has already come out of the rail. Track repair fixes the rail before it gets that far. If the door is hanging crooked now, stop using it and call.

Off-track repair
Should I grease the tracks?

No. Grease inside the track collects dirt and makes the rollers slide instead of roll. Wipe the track clean and lubricate the roller bearings and hinges instead.

Can you repair tracks in Santa Clara today?

Same-day when the schedule and parts allow. Call (408) 290-5673 for the South Bay. Santa Cruz County goes to Capitola at (831) 282-8312.

Do you repair commercial door tracks?

Yes. We repair tracks on commercial sectional and roll-up doors for shops, offices, and warehouses, where forklifts and delivery vans are the usual cause.
